National Trust project

unnamed (2)Books turned back into apple trees

The National Trust will be planting a new tree in its orchard at Swan Barn Farm thanks to the recycling of over 1,000 books. For the past two years, Transition Haslemere has been collecting and selling secondhand books on its stall at the farmers market and other local events. From the outset, we committed to donating a quarter of the proceeds to the National Trust to help restore its town orchard. All books are sold for £1 and 1,000 books later the group handed over a cheque for £250 to the National Trust at its wassailing celebration in the Swan Barn orchard on Friday 23 January 2015. The money will support the planting and lifetime maintenance of a traditional apple variety. Stop by and say hello! 🙂
